Review # 1 was written on 2013-02-12 00:00:00 Robert Bayham A highly readable, if somewhat superficial, history of romance novels. It digs into the history of it as a commercial genre, sticking firmly with romance as a popular fiction style and charting its progress against other literary forms as well as against the mores of the day. While I would have liked to have seen a little more about the precursors of the earliest commercial successes this is an interesting read, especially to someone like me who knows very little about this genre.
