I didn’t expect the book to be interesting. I was curious about my new home state and decided to give it a browse when I saw it on the shelf at our local library. It was a surprisingly good read. Very informational which provides a thorough account of queensland’s history, culture and its people. Curiosity certainly played a key role for me wanting to read the book, but the authors did a great job full filling that curiosity and kept me reading. The book is full of interesting stories such as why Queensland does not have day light saving as other states; that Brisbane used to have tram service just as Melbourne but dismantled it in an effort to build a “modern” Brisbane to cater for future built around car transports; where queensland’s red neck state image and Brisbane ‘s country town reputation came from (e.g. one of Queensland’s long serving Primier did not even obtain secondary schooling). The book described Queensland’s decentralisation nature and tradition from the start which helps to explain many past political policies and unique characters that still shape the Queensland I see today. Overall very helpful read for a new comer to see and understand her new home state from a historical and new perspective. The book was written in 2000s. I look forward to reading Further updates and wish the sunshine state to continue grow and prosper.

Official history of the AIF in World War 1. Written by Bean who has gone above and beyond the level to be expected. Classic.
