Review # 2 was written on 2014-03-14 00:00:00 Alise Mcduffie The book has some good points - modern expressions, practical vocabulary, a fair number of exercises, and a large number of readings. My big problem is that you have to memorize a lot of grammar rules from boxes and lists because the book does not drill you on them. This is irritating because grammar is the most difficult part of Hungarian, so I feel that this book takes the easy way out and only trains you in the simpler grammar and leaves the harder parts in boxes and lists for you to memorize on your own. The book is OK, but honestly I thought Pontifex's 'Teach Yourself' was better, it had more balance. Even better were Assimil's book and Koski's books. So you do have better option. |
