Review # 1 was written on 2011-01-22 00:00:00 Pierrette Johnson This book was important for the research into one of my characters in Remedy Wheel. It's useful for those who want to understand the evolution of the black church in Chicago, particularly as a force for political and social action, not to mention soup kitchens and employment services and other areas in which government was barely aware of, let alone responsive to, Chicagoans living between 17th and 63rd. If you understand the story of these churches within the context of the Great Migration, Jeremiah Wright's sermons don't seem all that surprising. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-01-23 00:00:00 Brian Mccabe This was a great book. I would recommend anyone who wants to understand the foundation of African Americans in Chicago and how religion play role in the great migration. |
