I found it gave a good general view of Britain's history without going into too much detail, whilst at the same time giving brief mention to things one might like to then read more on. I can only find one fault with this book, and it is not a bad fault, is that I found the books main focus was on the 19th century up until the outbreak of the first world war. The decades after which seemed to me to decrease in information most notably from the 40s on . The telling of later 20th century (1950s-1980s) history was only addressed in brief explanations of the major points. This is not a bad thing merely because this book was wrote as such history was of living memory. History is always best served once matured, giving a better view point for examination. That being said I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a brief yet well explained history of Britain as the country started to fully evolve. It served the purpose of my reading and has given me a nice grounding to progress into further and more detailed histories.

What a lovely book, written well before today's trend in 'everyday life' history - back when most history was battles, presidents and kings.
