It only took to the last book of the trilogy buuuuuut....I LOVED THIS ONE SO MUCH! It's like the Holly Black style that I adore and it's everything that I wanted and it's immensely faerieish and creepy and cruel and dark and WELL I AM A PLEASED SPRITE. ...although I have to admit, book 2, Valiant still makes exactly zero sense. It was about Luis, who has a part in this book, but it was narrated by Val, who has NO PART IN THIS BOOK WHATSOEVER. Random and odd? I thinkee yes. ANYWAY. I loved how creepily dark this was. It's set more in the faerie worlds. And, yeeeah, the plot was a bit painful, aka, it consisted of Roiban saying "DON'T DO THE THING" and Kaye going "BUT I WANNA DO THE THING" and blood everywhere and regret and bad faerie food. BUT! It was still interesting and never slow and I loved how delicious the writing was. I felt really sucked into the story. Oh and the characters? I've been a bit BLEH and MEH with the characters....up until this book. Now I love them. Weeell...I LOVE CORNY. Omg, Corny is one of the most perfect characters of ever. He's funny and sarcastic and he also has a dark side. Like really dark. I really loved this about him because he was so complex and interesting. Whereas Kaye was all love! and freedom! and truth! and belonging! and blah blah, Kaye we get it, you're having a crisis. And while Kaye and Roiban's relationship was built on "protecting" each other by shunning each other...we have Corny's crush on Luis which. was. adorable. OMG I SHIP IT SO HARD. There is plenty of death and torture and destruction too. I'm not a sadist but YAY!! The book promises darkness and comes through with it. SO BE PREPARED FOR SOME SMUSHED FEELS. Bad stuff goes down and people get hurt and blood everywhere. And swords! AND IT'S FUNNY. YAY AND THANK YOU. I binge read this trilogy in like, um, 3 days, so I can safely say I did enjoy it, although the start was rocky. I'm totally sad it's over too. I think I've read all the Holly Black books now?!? Um, WHAT DO I DO WITH MY LIFE, HUH!??!? I WANT MORE CREEPY FAERIE BOOKS...

[And the solution to the plot of this is a PUN, which… excellent. (hide spoiler)]
