Review # 1 was written on 2017-06-17 00:00:00 Joseph Carmeci The illustrations in this book are trademark Tomie dePaola. The title page is beautiful with a tree framing a home. The tree is in blossom and more indicative of spring The four friends try to decide what to do for a day. Don't try to predict the day, they go from one activity to another. After a disastrous outing boating, they decide to find something they all like: gardening. I do find it unusual that the gardens will take at least part of the summer. The story didn't flow for me. However, the friends get together to view, and appreciate one another's gardens. From previous artwork children may be able to make a prediction that the pig will plant a vegetable garden. However, the real surprise in this story is the dogs garden. What looks like dirt is: a bone garden! A nice ending for a slightly disjointed story. The friends appreciate their differences and encourage each other. |
