Review # 1 was written on 2013-09-11 00:00:00 Oddgeir Eysteinsson Originally written as a textbook for eighth grade Bosnian Muslims in the early 1900s. Exhaustive but dry. Far more useful as a reference than as a readable introduction to the history of Arabic literature. There is nothing off the beaten track here, because Goldziher is the one who beat the track in the first place. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-08-29 00:00:00 Bhakti Dave Another tired-sounding post-Negative Blue collection from Charles Wright. Replaces a mystic curiosity about the world with a lot of subjective introspection. Sure, there is poetry within, but more fleeting than sustained. Skip this (and Scar Tissue) and go get Littlefoot, it might be the best book Wright has ever produced. |
