Review # 1 was written on 2013-03-02 00:00:00 Thomas Williams I really thought this book was going to be about friendship not a man-haters club. I finished just to see if anything positive happens. These are 4 women with varying degrees of hatred for their current/ex-husbands. I could never keep the characters square in my mind. Many aspects were unrealistic (Yves? - Walter?), left me hanging (red-head woman dentist) and plain not caring (Dixie's dad/Myrtle, all of the children). This was not an empowering story for women because they all felt like they couldn't live without their man! Hard to believe the copyright is 2002 seemed like it should be in olden days! |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-05-21 00:00:00 Matthew Odom This book grew on me. I think closer editing would have improved the book, so the reader has to self-edit the excessive flow and just ignore some of the excess. Strongest impression is that a lot has changed with technology and surveillance since this book’s 2002 publication. Much of the fun and hijinks would have been observed by somebody, which would have changed the plot. (The characters have cell phones and caller ID.) But the friendship was real and true, and the women did change throughout the book. The story allowed some reflection on friendship and marriage. |
