Review # 1 was written on 2020-10-05 00:00:00 Mario D. Oliva An intensely dense academic work, this book definitely too me some time to get through. But, I really enjoyed it. The foreword does an excellent job of grounding the work'its perspective, its placement in academia, etc.'and each subsequent essay did the same. Each essay's conclusions felt extremely grounded. The book, in showing the habits of other cultures (most specifically one Hindu temple town) definitely made me think about my own biases and the perspective of the culture in which I was raised. This book is thought-provoking, and one I'd recommend for someone who wants to be able to witness their own culture from the outside in. |
