The book works as a good introduction to visual perception. The explanations of figure-ground phenomena, "impossible" figures, as well as the perceptual characteristics of contours and outlines are detailed and interesting. The research of course is based on work from the fifties-seventies, therefore some chapters might be outdated by now, e.g. the one on picture perception outside western culture, where Kennedy is highly critical of past research, but cannot offer much in exchange.
