Review # 1 was written on 2015-02-08 00:00:00 Jeff Alpin Meditation on the romantic attachment to and repulsion of whiteness. Combines occurrences in natural world (the moon, alabaster, snow) and those that are man-made (a shirt sleeve, ivory filigree, Bailey's Irish Cream) and parts of man himself (the back of a knee, a pale left shoulder, a flaccid cock). The overall effect is to be haunted by the ghosts of Shepherd's sensations, all that was important traced out. White utopia, windless nowhere, sail: you Troy refusing to burn, the Rome I never found. I floundered. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-06-16 00:00:00 Lisa Shouse Another lush, erudite collection of poems. Shepherd ranks among my favorite poets. |
