This is a cute book that contains five short stories. While they all centre around Morris the crocodile and his family and friends, each story is a stand-alone tale. There's a lot of humour, including Morris' Mum whose new swimsuit makes her look like a fruit salad, the Wildebeest family that are about to go on a walking holiday, and a football match in which a mother giraffe kicks the winning goal. The only thing I didn't like was that the first story includes a bit where it says that Morris and his best friend Billy go outside to beat each other up. It then goes on to explain that they actually just circled each other and did a lot of grunting and swings at the air, and that Morris helped Billy when he fell over. But I thought the reference to beating each other up was uncalled for and could give a bad message. That was the only glitch, however, as the rest of the stories were quite appealing and there were some other good values expressed (e.g., the way Morris helped his little brother, and the way the Mums cooperated when buying clothes for the kids). The illustrations are quirky and fun. Would be good for children who are moving from picture books to chapter books.

Funny enough for little boys, sweet enough for grannies. The last story was just a titch 'off' though, because I have no idea why the boys had a problem with their moms' solution. I really appreciated that each animal was happy with themselves and their unique shapes; the warthog was the pretty girl, for example, and the girl elephant went off the diving board saying "Look at me! I'm a jumbo jet!"
