Review # 1 was written on 2012-07-18 00:00:00 Brittany Brinkman As a psychiatry intern, this book definitely spoke to some of the experiences that I am going through and the feelings that I have as I embark on my residency journey. It's also a very discouraging book, however, and I don't think it represents the state of psychiatry now, nor does it represent psychiatric training everywhere. I can't help but fear and wonder if some of those thing continue, however. I have a good guess as to where the author may have trained, and I understand why things felt they way they do. I just hope I don't turn out as angry as this author did about his residency. But maybe his experience and his speaking is what changed things for those of us who come after him. To him I say, thank you.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-11-18 00:00:00 Jenna Haze Dr. Robert Klitzman gives an honest an open view on his own experience as a psychiatry resident. His description of his own challenges, feelings, insecurities and views prove him to be very humane and emphatic. I felt sympathy reading this book, for the patients he cared for and for him finding his way through this though journey. The message is clear, the residency years were no walk in the park, the system had faults, psychiatry is not always a rewarding profession and there are many things to be researched and improved. However, I didn't find it discouraging but more down to earth and it made me curious to read others more recent professional experiences. I certainly think of this book as being insightful and of added value for anyone interested in this field. Thank you Dr. Klitzman for sharing!
