Review # 1 was written on 2012-12-02 00:00:00 Jonathan Harrison I was pretty unimpressed with this book, but I guess I am not really its target audience. This book assumes that people with children will want to only visit restaurants and museums geared toward children. I do NOT need to know the location of chain theme restaurants in Manhattan, nor do I need to know that there is an observation deck at the Empire State Building. If you can't find those things on your own, I guess you really DO need this book! While it is useful that the authors list the amenities at various restaurants (kids' menus, high chairs, etc), I would have liked to hear about navigating less obvious attractions. For example, they mention that the Frick doesn't allow children under ten, but they neglect to mention the Whitney at all. There's an assumption that children can be interested in dinosaurs, but not modern art. These kinds of books are inevitably disappointing because they strive to appeal to the lowest common denominator. |
