Summary: Angelina at the Fair begins with Angelina's performance of the maypole dance at the Fair. After the performance, Angelina could not be more excited to hang with her friends at the Fair. However, little cousin Henry is in town and Angelina is forced to take him with her. Filled with fury, she drags Henry all around the Fair doing only the things she wants to do. Her biggest mistake is taking Henry into the haunted house where he disappears. Will Angelina and little cousin Henry ever be reunited? Major Themes: The major themes are Selfishness, Friendship, and Kindness. Personal Response: I connect with this book in multiple ways. I am the youngest in my family. I have an older brother and an older sister. There have been many times in my life where my older sister was responsible for me like Angelina was responsible for little cousin Henry. One thing I admire about this book is that Henry never objects to the things Angelina wants to do. Occasionally, he'll ask to do something he wants to do. However, he never refuses to do what Angelina wants to do. He is kind and willing to do what she wants. Angelina, on the other hand, is mean to Henry and objects to everything he wants to do until they get separated. Growing up, I could have been more like Henry when my sister, Ashley, was responsible for me. Recommendation: Angelina at the Fair could be used in the classroom in multiple ways. It introduces the idea of friends taking turns when playing. Selfishness begins at an early age so it is important to address as soon as possible. Angelina at the Fair portrays selfishness in a way that many children can relate to. It also stresses the importance of friendship and learning to be kind to each other in all circumstances. Henry is a good example of how to act when someone is being mean to you. At the end of the book, Angelina learns to be kind and selfless to Henry. This also is a good example of how a friend should act. Reading Angelina at the Fair in class would allow for discussion of how friends should and shouldn't act.

Angelina wants to go to the fair with her friends. She has been saving for it all winter. But when the day comes, she is forced to bring her little cousin, Henry. I think the story has potential, but I found it to be weak.
