This is a good book about the accounting field with a lot of information about the different titles at the corporate, government, and non-profit settings. There is also information about certification exams, accounting in Canada, and international accounting. This is more of a reference book, cause you can just pick which chapters you are interest in and read that instead of the whole book. Like I wasn't interest in accounting in Canada so I didn't read it. There is a good chapter on the working environment, how to spruce your resume, setting goals, etc. However, the section about using power and competition in the work place is kind of intimidating. Overall, this will give you a good overview of what you can do with accounting. Favorite Quote: "You will have many opportunities to be assertive. Everyone experiences criticism on the job, at least occassionally. If it is realistic, helpful criticism, the assertive person responds by acknowledging that the criticism is valid. If the problem lies in you, and you are working on the problem and trying to modify your behavior patterns, you should state that fact. If you are receiving criticism and have been unaware that a problem existed, you can ask for help or suggestions on ways to correct the situation. If you are giving criticism, be careful to avoid aggression. If aggressive behavior is used to criticize someone, the person receiving the criticism probably wil become angry or defensive. This does not result in any productive behavior modification or change." (P. 170)

I have recently read several books about manipulation and how to deal how to deal with the manipulators in our lives. This book gives lots of practical advice for the layperson, more than I found in other books. I should add that this book confines itself to the everyday type of manipulator rather than the serious antisocial, psychopathic type of individual. In a way, these more mundane types are harder to get a handle on and may therefore cause more chronic, but not necessarily, less important damage. It is crucial to a happy life to learn how to cope with such individuals, especially when they are family members.
