Review # 1 was written on 2019-10-03 00:00:00 Jonathan Dickey A fascinating look at life in the british empire just as the American revolution is beginning. Her observations are very personal, and at times hilarious. She admits that she is biased, but is not afraid to be blunt at times. Not only is Janet Schaw a staunch loyalist, she also comments on the lower classes of society. Prepare yourself for some blatant racism as she describes the lives of the enslaved. Even so, her travels put her into contact with many influential people about which the footnotes and appendices give you plenty of biographical information.
