Review # 1 was written on 2017-02-22 00:00:00 Dean Sunarya An interesting and entertaining read. I took one of Tregle's Jackson classes at UNO. He was an excellent teacher, and it was one of the most enjoyable classes I had in college. He writes like he lectured, clear and erudite. Followers of Louisiana politics will appreciate it. It turns out that things haven't changed much in the last 200 years or so. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-11-02 00:00:00 Mike Calhoun This is precisely the kind of book that I enjoy most and that is most beneficial to me as a high school history teacher. A concise survey of relevant scholarship and key trends of Jacksonian America, this book did a great job of clarifying for me some of the key economic, political, social and cultural events and trends of the 19th century. The book is also well-written and astonishingly easy to follow for a professional historian. I would recommend it for anyone who is interested in the forces that helped to create the United States into what it is today. |
