Because of my interest in Chinese history, I read this book about these two men's journalism careers involving China. Thomas Griffith, another journalist, wrote this story of Henry Luce and Theodore White's love of China, how they met and worked together, and eventually parted ways because of their disagreement over Chiang Kai-Shek. It was a slow read, too detailed and boring in some spots. I am glad to be finished with it and would only recommend it to Chinese history and journalism majors in college.

A quick read on the relationship between the founder of TIME magazine and his favorite journalist. Written by a TIME magazine editor who knew both men, for me this book is pretty much a biography of Teddy White, although there are many useful segues into related topics, such as the American experience in WWII China, McCarthyism, and the Hiss-Chambers affair. An enjoyable read for those interested in any of these topics. No endnotes confirming sources, and a very light bibilography.
