World Book, Inc. The Kingfisher Children's Encyclopedia (2013). *note this edition was not available on GoodReads Reviewed by: Kris Grimm Reference Type: Encyclopedia Call Number: 031 ISBN: 9780716601135 Content/Scope: This encyclopedia is written with an audience of grades 3rd-6th in mind. It is a comprehensive yet concise contemplation of topics within 500 pages. Special features include a "Fast Facts" section, a "See Also" box, and a "Fact finder" section. There are numerous illustrations and photographs included. Accuracy/Authority/Bias: There are a few inaccuracies, such as referring to the "Willis Tower" as the "Sears Tower". Some of the photographs are slightly outdated. Though lacking extensive information on a topic, it is a solid reference material to use with younger students just learning the information inquiry process. Arrangement/Presentation: The information is presented in an eye-catching and pleasing format, which will appeal to younger readers. There is a pleasing arrangement of text, illustrations, and helpful tip boxes if more information is desired. Relation to similar works: The set of encyclopedias currently owned are outdated (2000) and geared towards older children. While this set contains a few inaccuracies, it would make a good addition for the younger and ELL students, provided the LMS/teachers are aware of the inaccuracies. Accessibility/Diversity: This set will be a nice addition to allow younger students and/or struggling readers access to reference material needed for research. Older students may also utilize it as a preliminary research tool, though they will have to use other sources for more detailed information. Cost: $1,422.00 Professional Review: Grove, G. (2012). The Kingfisher Encyclopedia, 3rd ed. Booklist. Retrieved on November 22, 2015 from

Lots of great stories about the place. I'm a fan of the Beats, and it had a good section on Burroughs. I hadn't realized just how popular it was for writers and artists.
