George Augustus Frederick Ruxton was an Englishman born in Oxfordshire near Oxford who had traveled 1/3 of the world before he died at the young age of 27. George was a member of the Royal Geographic Society of England. George rode his horse and walked from Vera Cruz, Mexico to Manitou Springs, Colorado a total of 3,000 miles in 1846 and 1847 during the Mexican War. George's first hand accounts of meeting many of the important historical people such as Santa Ana, Mexican Governor Armijo, Governor Charles Bent of Bent's Fort and the first Governor of New Mexico. George's first hand accounts of the Indians, Mexicans and future Americans - trappers, miners and frontier people is detailed and very literate. George gets caught in a wildfire started by the Indians, almost dies in a freak snowstorm, has many near death moments involving Mexicans, Indians and future Americans. George writes commentaries on the Mexican War, the Issue of Slavery, and President Polk's policies. Tragically George died of dysentary in St. Louis on his return to the Rockies. Read George's book if you are really interested in how the Mexican war affected people living in the Southwest during 1846 to 1848.

This is another book that might be hard to find but it is worth it. It is a "rare-y" but goodie! Mark Lowry, a well-known Christian singer-songwriter tells you about the Lord and how much He has impacted his life. There is a lot you can learn about him as this book is funny but tender-hearted and hits a point home about the Lord. The songwriter of "Mary Did You Know?," his works for God have become popular as he has not just the gift of writing but the gift to sing for Him as well. I don't know what else to say about this book other than I enjoyed it immensely (but it probably was his first book, just to warn you, so you might not get as much as you would from Max Lucado or as extensive as Rick Warren) and that it will touch your heart for God and make you laugh said heart off as well. This is not "cute" humor either cuz I know cute ain't funny (hahaha) but real genuine jokes and lots of stuff that is good for the soul. I gave it four stars.
