In terms of emotional impact, this book was devastating; it describes processes and events that we know occur, and so to some extent, to which we're desensitized. But with its keen and unsparing analyses, and presentation of practices, attitudes, and realities that are all too pervasive, it was difficult not to walk away from the book feeling simultaneously determined and helpless-- the latter surely not Goldberg's intent. |
