It sounds so terribly stereotype, but the gender relations stall because people like these authors write and talk. They all have their rights to speak out their own minds, even if they are quite shallow. And they have their right to earn a living, even if they are intellectual impostures. But lately I seem to find only this kind of shallow and dogmatic thinking. Take Chapter 5. The two authors have a political axe to grind. There is NO research involved. Only their armchair musings. Their biases are disclosed in the first few pages. But usually people do not seem to read all the data. Anyway, both authors have a good reason not to see what is going on: their own monthly pay. Their article describes how equality needs an authoritarian state dealing in monopolies. But they ignore that after all the time and inflated wages, the problem is still there. And if we believe the authors, the problem might be even worse now than it was. And to add insult to injury, both the taxpayer and the beneficiaries of the health system are completely ignored. Which, in the end, might be a good idea as the data is sparse and well massaged to fit the thesis.

Well worth reading if you are interested in Texas politics, the making of a remarkable (female) politician, and women's rights in general. Ann Richards was one amazing woman.
