Review # 1 was written on 2015-03-23 00:00:00 Per-anders Broberg The first thing that readers need to know about this book is that it was published in 1998, so some of the material within is absolutely dated and not worth your time (think suggestions about work in technology-related markets). For those who are trying to get ideas about what possibilities exist out there, however, this book can be extremely useful. Authors Darcie Sanders and Martha Bullen offer more than 100 suggestions of possible ways to put your talents to use in making money from skills and hobbies you already have, and these ideas range the gamut from mural painter to music teacher, from personal trainer to grant writer, and a whole lot more that may not automatically come to mind. Some (accountants, dog breeders, brewmasters) require very specialized skills, while others (neighborhood concierge, renting out your garage) do not. The sheer number of different paths people have pursued will get any reader thinking about how he or she might take in some extra cash. The writers, who are based in Chicago, offer up plenty of real world examples of people who have created these types of businesses and made them profitable. Also valuable at the book's end is their list of associations and further reading material. Yes, it's dated, and there are no Internet links, but search engines can help you there, and may even lead to more ideas, if you use your results well. One can only hope that someday the authors (or someone else) will take the ideas in this book and revise the material for the 21st century.
