In this hilarious and inventive picture book, your host, Bob Beetle, takes special guest Dahlia Dragonfly down memory lane, highlighting the most influential creatures and experiences during her time as a nymph. Youll meet three mystery guests, who'll share their personal stories about Dahlia, and along the way youll find out about the different stages of a dragonflys life, the various predators they face, what they eat, and other amazing facts. This informational book is written in a storybook style, and uses a humorous storyline and clever dialogue to capture the reader's attention. Reading like a graphic novel, the cartoonish illustrations also draw the reader in. A potential drawback is that the humor and plot may overpower the informational content, and some of this was presented incorrectly in order to work with the "game show" format. For example, it only took a minute of commercial break for Dahlia's wings to dry out, while in reality, it would take several hours. The author does include a recap of content as an "Author's Note", and corrects the misinformation included in the story. While potentially confusing, you could also view it as a good teaching tool for the importance of checking Author's Notes, appendixes, glossaries. Overall, this is a creative way to introduce students to the life cycle of a dragonfly. Perhaps the students could transform their classroom into their own set of "This is Your Life Cycle" for a reader's theater version of this text or as a way to communicate understanding of other insect life cycles.

In the style of an old game show, Dahlia Dragonfly meets the insects and animals that were instrumental to her life to this point. This comically illustrated book is not only amusing, but also contains the factual details of the dragonfly's life. Younger students will be highly entertained by this lively offering.
