This is a horse book. Nothing more, nothing less. Well, they threw in some old people, and depending on the way you look at it they take time away from the horses or give you a break from the horses. If you like horse books, you will like this. I don't, so I was bored. Jan, our heroine, is very whiny, and her priorities are slightly messed up. However, she isn't supposed to be right, which helps some. Dove--the horse--is no Black Stallion. He's not even a (heigh-ho) Silver. He was just a pet with medical issues. I love books with old people, but nobody here really has much of a character, so I can't say the addition of Mattie really helped anything. Pretty much everyone is humanized, which was nice, but it isn't enough. Oh, and the Popular Girl is ignored, again, poor dear. If you are not a horse lover, you will be bored to tears. I kept glancing at the back to see how many pages there were, and calculating how many more until I finished. If you are a horse lover, you will probably like this book, though the horse isn't actually in it all that much.

Well from what I remember from this book it was overall decent and is definately (obviously) a book for people who like horses.
