This is extremely basic information, and the first part of the book reads like an introduction to what henna and mehndi are, which you probably already know before you read The book The recipe info is fairly standard. The patterns are a mix of modern, new age, and traditional Indian and North African. I would have enjoyed less of the new age content. It's a good start for an absolute beginner, but more experimentation with recipes and line drawing will likely be necessary.

I knew this was a small book when I ordered it - I was looking for a sort of basic how-to with some design ideas and maybe some historical/cultural perspective. Probably half of this book reads like a brochure you would pick up for free in a salon, or read on a web site. The rest of it is the useful practical information that I was looking for, but I would have enjoyed even more design ideas. Above all I like this book but I don't think it's worth the publisher's list price of $12.00.
