Review # 1 was written on 2008-09-11 00:00:00 Nick Henny This is an excellent resource/teaching guide to getting into PHP. I feel that I can actually pull-together some code of my own now that I've been transcribing the samples in the book over and over and over again. The only problem I encountered was related to the fact that I have no control over my PHP server settings and that I am still getting my PHP-feet wet and don't yet have an intimate knowledge of these serverside settings/options. I had been able to pull-down the Configuration/PHP Core settings, but I didn't always know what Directive was being accessed by any given hack. In a couple of cases I only discovered the applicable Directive setting when I got an error message after I had run the app. 'Twas a bit frustrating; I would have liked to have been told that a specific hack required a specific Directive to be set one way or another. |
