Phew! This one reads like today's news. This is the second and last trip down memory lane for me, reading another Truman book published the year of her death (2008) and apparently written by a ghost writer. What we are treated to here, after the initial discovery of a murdered prostitute, is a set of circumstances linking this prostitute to a presidential candidate as well as a corrupt cop and the fallout from a set of tapes made by the prostitute. This fallout includes the kidnapping of a young girl. There are some dedicated cops in the mix and some good investigative moves that require the cooperation of the always present Secret Service. Selfishness is the front and center theme on this trail that leads to the White House. Library Loan

Writing so bad, it crushes the soul. "As for money, you've been a wonderful provider for me and our three children." "While aware that prejudice existed despite advances made by African-Americans, he'd suffered little of it growing up...."
