(Narrative only goes to 232) Pretty good overview of the northern roads during the years of the of the War of Rebellion. Lots of insight into the relatively primitive state of railroading in the 1860s. Best part was the section, in chapter 10, on Herman Haupt, a West Point grad who had resigned his commission and became an engineering professor, then worked in the RR industry. He had a big part in better organizing the railroads during the war. No idea if there are other books on him. ETA: The chapters were pretty clearly independent papers at some point and then stitched together to make a book back in the 50s when this was published. :-)
