Review # 2 was written on 2010-11-19 00:00:00 Matthew Vogel I got this as a Goodreads first-reads book. I was excited to receive this and read it the second that I opened the package. Here's my honest opinion... The rhyming is terrific. We get a great picture of what type of boy Rudy is...and his family...I imagine there is no coincidence that his name is "rude"y. So, all of these good things...why isn't my rating higher? As a teacher, I try to avoid using the language of "bad" boys and girls...and to say that there was a place where all the bad kids go seems harsh to me...but I can edit it if I'm reading this aloud. And the monster Lily and Eddie were too scary for my tastes. I get that they are to be scary and maybe I'm just overly sensitive to things like this. The overall message is great. I'm sure that I will read this over and over again to my class...and I know that they will enjoy it too. I've already recommended it to the head librarian of the school district.
