Review # 1 was written on 2009-04-26 00:00:00 Robert Kidde Heart-breakingly sad (made me bawl at the end) and a little disorienting. Made me think a lot about life, love, evil parents, mental illness--the gamut of heavy issues. Not a light beach reading, that's for sure. Characters, however, are endearing. Its labeled a memoir-novel. . . so not sure how much is true or not. Hope she wasn't really repeating her mothers journey in the end. . . Hope that part was made up! |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-10-02 00:00:00 Devra Leonard Hee hee. This is a hoot. This is a perfect book for older siblings and children who will soon have a baby brother or sister join the household. I say ages 3 to 7 because by age 8, kids will want a more sophisticated book and kids younger than age 2-1/2 or 3 are not likely to understand enough to get a kick out of the book. While human children want to be the good child in the family, in this monster family, it's being the worst that's the coveted position. The story is very funny and cute (and poignant too) and has a nicely done ending. At first I found the illustration unappealing, but they fit the story so well and I warmed to them and ended up enjoying them. |
