Review # 1 was written on 2010-08-04 00:00:00 Lily Lily This book wrestles with the question how the Church can maintain that doctrines have a stable and perduring meaning whilst at the same time taking historicity serious. It is very helpful in illuminating the major contributions in the intersection of theology and philosophy. This work is particularly strong in interacting with (Roman Catholic) Church documents as well as the major theological and philosophical contributions. What I really appreciated is the strong ecumenical effort. It is not often that I have read in such a work by a Roman Catholic repeated positive interpretations of protestant reformers. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the hermeneutics of doctrine. |
