Review # 1 was written on 2017-11-06 00:00:00 Steven Dimino Another beautiful natural history book full of delightful pictures and an informative narrative. The pictures aren't quite as fabuolus as those in COLDER by RANULPH FIENNES that I read at the same time as this one but the reason for that is that they were written in different era's and the difference can be out down to advances in technology and the like. The photographs included are of animals and the land with geographical features prominently featured. I always look out for these books that not only have the information but are illustrated in such a spectacular way. Amazing!

Both of them are filmmakers. The information Fothergill presents comes from the many scientists who've made careers of studying the animals and ecosystem of Antarctica. Fothergill is sometimes less than precise with his facts. His focus is on telling the animals' stories with stunning visuals and absorbing narrative. He does this brilliantly, ably aided by the many scientists who helped him, and by Attenborough, by teams of fearless, persistent cameramen, two ships' crews, and months of effort.
