For me, what is most interesting for Hartigan's work is this line distinguishing the singular experiences in life, and the accumulation of words people use to describe those experiences. The last poem in the book "Tiger Entries" has this most beautiful image of a whale surfacing, and how her experience witnessing this moment is beyond words, and yet, one can understand the implicit argument in this book's existence is that maybe, just maybe, there is a way that words can find a way to lead a reader to that singular wonder.

Mixing abstract meditation with minute physical examination, Endi Bogue Hartigan attends to the larger meaning of the world by scrupulously sifting through its particulars, particulars that take on a luminous sheen in her handling of them. It's big country and it remains in the mind.
