Review # 1 was written on 2010-07-27 00:00:00 Carl Zahrt It's hard to rate his book. The selection is intended to represent 25 years of the Johns Hopkins poetry series, and it may well do that. I can judge it by the poets included, some of whom appealed and some of whom did not. Some poets left me puzzling over their poetry, trying to decide if I liked what they wrote and how they wrote. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I was glad to be done with it. I intend to read more of certain poets included in the book, which was the intent of the book's editor. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-03-17 00:00:00 Robert Forster Truly a grab bag as others have said. A few compelling stories and a few tedious observations on troubled father relationships. At a certain point, it's "much of a muchness". This is not a book I recommend reading all the way through. Pick out a few stories, the gems, and you'll find it quite easy to discard the rest. |
