Written by the Guardian of Yosemite in 1904: it is remarkable for its sympathetic look at the Indians of Yosemite Valley during the late 1800s. There are photos of the people and well-known landmarks of Yosemite, with their Indian names and associated legends. Galen Clark gives short descriptions of food preparation, hunting practices, shelters, festivals, and social activities. The text is surprising well written for this era. (One caution: I think some of the medicine plants Clark recounts as used for headaches and other ailments may be poisonous.) This is an important book of its time. Clark lived near the Yosemite Valley for decades and was in California during the 1855 treaty and release of many California Indians from reservations.

Actually a very good history of the park. It is dated, but then again not much changes in Yosemite. An excellent history of the Indians in the area and what became of them. How they lived etc. This was a free Kindle book from Amazon.
