Review # 1 was written on 2016-02-18 00:00:00 Carole Thorpe Interesting reading. It is hard to actually rate a book such this though. There are long descriptions, page after page in fact, of the many places he travelled and they can make dry reading. The writing is not particularly PC by modern standards. Understandable considering the period in question but this can make for uncomfortable reading at times. He had slaves, for example, but then some might say who didn't in the early 1800's on the Arabian peninsular. Putting aside those issues there was many interesting descriptions of the peoples, places and events that must certainly be of use to modern scholars with an interest in the history of the Arabian peninsular.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-07-30 00:00:00 Carlos Gochy Gonzalez Rubio في العام ١٨١٤ م قام الرحالة جون لويس بوركهارت برحلة إلى الحجاز في أثناء فترة تواجد محمد علي باشا لحرب الوهابيين وهناك ادعى الإسلام وقام بالتنقل بين جده والطائف ومكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة وينبع واصفاً المكان والناس والشعائر - حيث قام بأداء العمرة والحج وزيارة القبر النبوي كأي مسلم عادي - ورسم بعض الخرائط للمدينتين المقدستين والكثير من الظواهر الاجتماعية والسياسية للحجاز في تلك الفترة ، غلب على الكاتب النَفَس الاستشراقي الغربي المتعالي والكئيب مع بعض التفسيرات الغير موضوعية لبعض الظواهر لكن هذا لا يلغي قيمة الكتاب كصورة للحياة الحجازية في ذلك العصر
