The 30th book in the Sweet Valley University series, meaning I'm halfway to the end of the series. I still love it but this wasn't the best instalment. This is the first book of the second Lifeguards trilogy, a year has passed since the gang were last at the Sweet Valley Shore despite the fact that the twins et al are still college freshmen. Also how big is Sweet Valley? There's the main town, the University campus and now the Shore which seems to be separate from the other two. You know what, never mind. It's Sweet Valley. Time isn't linear, small towns are actually three separate small towns. Don't let it blow your mind. Elizabeth is back with Ryan Taylor, the head lifeguard. He's a moody jerky blowhard recovering alcoholic, but that's all right because he really knows how to rain kisses on a girl's forehead and be topless and muscular. These two are pretty dull. Jessica's romance from last year is back, brainy girlfriend in tow. To prove that she is also smart, Jessica buys a copy of Crime and Punishment which she ends up shredding and flushing down the toilet. Nina has some kind of nervous breakdown and doesn't realise she's been kidnapped by a hippy. The next one is called The Truth About Ryan. I hope the truth is something like, "Ryan's been dead for ten yeeeears...."
