Review # 1 was written on 2008-06-01 00:00:00 Dean Donaldson Solid advice, engaging. The one big quibble I have about this book is that two of Kate's points are to never say "I dont' know" and to never say "I'm not sure." I dispute this. I don't think it's good advice. My experience - and direct feedback from my various bosses - has been that they like it when I say that I don't know instead of pretending and bullshitting. Because if they don't know, and they ask me, but they know more than me about it even if they don't know the correct answer, and then I bullshit, it's easy for me to put my foot in my mouth. I'd posit that the better advice would be to say, "I don't know, but I can find out." That conveys that your'e honest and direct - you're not going to bullshit them on this or anything else - and that you have passion - the passion to go out and find the answer/solution. |
