I pulled this off the shelf at work not realizing it was aimed at young readers. I think it's really good when you look at it that way. It's a nice little intro to things. I mostly just wanted a reference for poses since I recently started practicing bikram, and now that I know that this is aimed at kids and teens (and that it was published in 2003, and bikram has only been the kale of yoga for the last couple of years), it makes sense that there is no mention of bikram nor many of the poses we do, because children really shouldn't be doing it, probably. Anyway. A perfectly fine book, but not really useful if you're not a total beginner.

As a man in my 40s and never having been that flexible to begin with, yoga might be the direction for me to go to find a bit of that physical flexibility. This book is tremendously detailed, probably far more so than many people need, but for those who want the detail of history and differences between the major branches of yoga plus details of the different things yoga might do for your health. Every chapter, every section, has references of areas to pursue and other books/websites to check out for the particular subject. If you're looking for an instructional book, this isn't it. There are poses here, but they're examples not entire courses. But if you're looking for a detailed overview of yoga as a whole, targeted at the male potential practitioner, this is an interesting read.
