This is really more of a 4 star read, but due to the publication year being 1981, the material mostly covered the life of Ronald Reagan before his presidency; making it not something I would recommend to now purchase for libraries or classrooms. However, at the time this would have been a nice get to know a bit about your new chief executive book, filled with easy to follow text and lovely photographs.

I read The Look-It-up Book of Presidents in 1993 when I was in middle school and thought it was a great, informative book. 23 years later, I spotted it at the library and couldn't believe that I actually read it, refreshing my memory. It's still a great book, setting up a goal for myself to memorize the names of Presidents in chronological order and making sure that there were 8 Presidents who died in the office. Naturally, I have gotten older, more knowledgeable about politics, and am able to fill in the missing details that the author failed to mention in the book. There are great many Presidents who were racists and had a lot of serious faults. What happened to the ratings of Presidents starting with JFK and onward? Also missing is the name of JFK's assassin. All in all, no matter what, The Look-It-up Book of Presidents is an excellent beginner's foray into learning about the U.S. Presidents for the first time.
