I think it's one of the best references to turn to, especially if you're just starting out. It offers an overview of the most common challenges related to cross-cultural measurement, particularly when it comes to maintaining semantic and conceptual equivalences across language and cultures. It also provides an account of the various challenges related to the most commonly used metrics of measurement such as Likert-scales or bipolar scale or the issue of reference groups. It offers a few solutions to these challenges too. A must-read for anyone interested or working in behavioral cross-cultural research. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-01-14 00:00:00 John Mcay This was the main textbook for my research methods class. It's hard to find a methods book aimed at cross-cultural research - there aren't many out there. This one was pretty good, though it had some problems. It was probably a bit to advanced for the level of my class (especially toward the end, where the book started to cover complex statistical analyses). However, it did cover the necessary material and provided an acceptable knowledge base for in-class discussions. |
