Review # 1 was written on 2014-01-19 00:00:00 Robert Gilchrist Useless. Machan's arguments are based wholly on comparing Middle English varieties to modern English dialects. The former, he says, aren't dialects at all because they're not like modern English ones. The same argumentation, in other areas, might be used to say that people weren't human in the middle ages because they didn't think globally like we do today. What a horrid little book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-07-02 00:00:00 Jeffrey Ellis The chapter on the Baron's Wars during the reign of Henry III was very informative and helpful. The rest on dialects was not. |
