I liked this book, but I don't have time to thoroughly review it right now. Maybe later. for now I will say it was very useful to read someone using a lot of the same theoretical work on space, place, and borders that I do, and also interesting to think about place as narrative. Doreen Massey says places are collections of stories-so-far, and this book does a nice job of taking that up, and even ending with a chapter of poems. Though honestly, I would have rather had a boring old conclusion chapter for this academic book, with the poems maybe as introductions to the chapters? I don't know.

This is an amazing book by a young (well younger than me, anyway) scholar who is a Geographer by training. She wants to give us a sense of the dessert from inside and outside. So included in her academic prose are her photography, her poetry, her biography. This is one brave soul. She gives me something to shoot for. Talk about a holistic approach.
