Review # 1 was written on 2008-11-15 00:00:00 Shanon Oneill Ever since I have heard about quantum physics, the subject interested me. But, whenever I tried to understand it better, the more it felt elusive to me. I took this book from the IIT library with the usual apprehension that I am not going to understand anything. However, the title of the book interested me and I thought I will give a try. Quantum themes is one of the easy to read, well written books I have come across in this subject. It is written in a non-mathematical language so that even a general reader with sufficient background in physics can easily understand. The book starts from explaining the concepts involved in classical physics and gradually moves on to the regime of general theory of relativity and quantum physics. From there on it talks about the evolution of universe,the Big Bang, the dark matter, the black holes, singularity, quantum cosmology, cosmogenesis ... Many many concepts which are difficult to be understood are explained in a very simple and easy to understand manner, is I consider the key feature of this book. The analogies that he has taken from real world to explain the complex principles and the way the author conveys it to the reader is laudable. Many times the flow of the book is so good that I felt like reading a sci-fiction novel. I recommend this book to any one who is interested in knowing the origin of our universe and the scientific principles underlying it.

Review # 2 was written on 2012-04-04 00:00:00 Jay Peters Excellent overview for both topics! I really liked this book. I also recommend for the basic and intermediate topics Lancester's book (Quantum Field Theory for the Gifted Amateur book).
