Why in the world would I read this book? Good question. I found it very enlightening that today's views on teen pregnancy has origins in ancient Greece. The young women and girls who got pregnant could be sold into slavery by their fathers. Other works I have looked at say Greek tales, especially about Amazons, trace the beginnings of patriarchal culture. Small book and an enlightening read.

This is probably the most remarkable book I've ever read on this subject. Leaves English scholars of the same subject in the dust. A brain-bending series of exercises in thinking about how texts think with and through other texts.
