Review # 1 was written on 2014-11-17 00:00:00 Frank Lee Basic in the extreme. Insights into Stalin are dreadfully limited. Highlights include some nice facts about the fronts and operations. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-01-22 00:00:00 Jimmy Nguyen Extremely detailed accounts of major battles on the Eastern Front however, very little attention or credit paid to the Russian people who fought, worked, starved and sacrificed everything to save Mother Russia. Lots of good anecdotes about Stalin's temperament. The author does not address the question if Russia could have fended off the Nazis without Stalin in control. I'm not so sure, even as evil as Stalin was, perhaps it took a monster bigger than Hitler to stop the German war machine. |
