Review # 1 was written on 2014-08-09 00:00:00 Sarah Cohen Hill continues his anthropological studies in Anglo Saxon culture, this time focusing on the Germanic warrior ethic presented in texts such as Beowulf, Brunnanburh, Maldon and the Chronicle. Hill doesn't see these texts has presenting an ancient warrior ethic, but sees the presentation of warrior culture in these texts to be political propaganda originating from the times of Alfred to Ethelred. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-07-31 00:00:00 Johnny Nix An interesting study. I have to admit, the book was a little above my head sometimes. The author did like to use sentences as long as paragraphs, and I would recommend a working knowledge of Old English. I did enjoy what I understood, though. |
